What to Expect for
Hunt Accommodations
Our camps are comfortable and we trust you will enjoy your time there. We offer the quintessential Newfoundland hunting camp. It's a comfortable accommodation that has all the comforts of home (hot water for a shower, kitchen, bathroom, semi-private rooms).
THE SOU'WESTER WAY

RON CANNING – CAMP BUILDER & GUIDE
Ron has been part of Sou’Wester Outfitting since we acquired the operation. A self-employed construction framer from Sudbury, Ontario, he returned home to Newfoundland and semi-retired 10 years ago with his wife, Cindy. They now live on the salt water in the small town of Conche on the Great Northern Peninsula.
Ron brings a lifetime of building experience and a work ethic that’s hard to match. From cutting firewood in the winter to hauling materials into remote locations, there’s no job he won’t take on. He played a key role in building our camps—putting in over 500 hours in just five weeks to complete the Indian Pond camp alone.
Today, he continues renovating and transforming our camps—one at a time.
An avid outdoorsman, Ron enjoys hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling, and maintains a remote cabin on the Grey Islands—something very few can say.
More than anything, Ron is someone we simply couldn’t do this without—and someone I’m proud to call my older brother.

What Went Into Constructing A Remote Hunting Camp?
All materials to construct the camps were either snowmobiled or flown in many kilometres. Our camps are very remote, and are constructed in a specific location to give you the highest hunting opportunity Newfoundland has to offer. There are no roads that lead to our camps, they are "in the middle of nowhere" and accessed only via float plane in the spring, fall and summer; and snowmobile in the winter. This video shows you the rough flight path from Deer Lake Regional Airport to the general area of our camps.
